Celebrating the Terrace Re-Opening!

The beautifully redesigned Wesley Homes Des Moines Terrace is now visible to the public.

With The Terrace lobby reopened, the renovations are a sneak peek of the redevelopment of the south side of the Wesley Homes Des Moines campus, which will update and take advantage of the wonderful Puget Sound views for current and future residents.

The Terrace now features updated furnishings, new flooring, light fixtures, cabinets and colors which have transformed several areas.

The leisure level now has more exercise equipment and brand new machinery as well as a large aerobics room with a full length mirror. There is more flexible space for parties, meetings and informal gatherings as well as several huge flat screen televisions.

The lounges on floors three through six are all furnished with electric fireplaces, ductless air units, comfortable soft seating as well as card tables, chairs and wall-mounted flat screen TVs. There is also a small serving area for social gatherings.

The Terrace lobby now has a large, newly remodeled classroom for continuing education classes, an adjacent art studio and storage space for easy access to walkers after residents return from an outing. The entryway to the lobby has a glass divider that acts as a wind barrier. Outside the newly remodeled library, past the fireplace and seating, is now a bistro and cafe with semi-private seating. The bistro provides an excellent, comfortable space for residents, family and friends to meet each other and socialize.

Wesley Homes hopes that the renovations surpass expectations and would like to acknowledge those who have helped make this possible. We thank the Des Moines Redevelopment Team, made up of Wesley Homes Des Moines residents, who have provided input and helped support the project since the beginning. We appreciate those in our community who have been encouraging and thank them for their patience during the remodeling. We thank our staff who have worked hard in planning and supervising the project. We are also grateful for the good work done by Walsh Construction and Superintendent Anthony Mizen who provided weekly updates for residents and staff every Monday morning, ensuring that our community were informed of the progress and challenges met during the remodeling.

Wesley Homes is also grateful for support from Wesley Homes Foundation, which is providing naming opportunities as a unique way for individuals to leave a lasting legacy on the campus. The Ted Gary Family Library was made possible by a $100,000 pledge from Ted and his children. Naming opportunities still exist for The Terrace bistro and lounge, education room and creative arts studio as a fundraising effort from the Foundation. Contact the Foundation here for more information on naming opportunities.

The renovations would not have been possible without all the dedicated individuals who worked so hard to plan, implement and support the project.

On September 1st, residents and staff celebrated re-opening The Terrace with a few words from President/CEO Kevin Anderson, Des Moines Executive Director Alex Candalla and Des Moines Redevelopment Team member and resident Gary Peterson.
