The Arbor memory care wing now open at Wesley Homes Lea Hill in Auburn

Posted on Aug 14, 2007

Wesley Homes Lea Hill, Auburn’s newest retirement community is now licensed to provide specialized care and services to older adults with cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of Dementia. “Our program offers fully equipped, private apartments in a residential environment,” says Kevin Anderson, President and CEO of Wesley Homes. “With family-style dining and intimate activity areas, we believe our residents will feel at home and their families will have the peace of mind knowing their loved ones are well cared for in a secure setting.”

To be licensed under the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), a program must meet strict requirements as to what amenities are provided in the apartments, common areas and kitchen as well as how care is provided. “Our goal is to provide a memory care program that exceeds the Department’s standards,” says John Merz, Campus Administrator. Wesley Homes requires its staff to go through a specialized training program that incorporates the DSHS training with its own enhanced education that adds a spiritual aspect of caregiving. “I am proud of our on-going training program,” Merz continues. “It teaches our staff to recognize that even with the loss of memory, each person’s spirit remains intact and is remembered by God.”

Wesley Homes Lea Hill officially opened May 1, 2007. It is located on the corner of SE 320th Street and 110th Ave. SE on Lea Hill, just west of Green River Community College. The buildings are designed in a northwest lodge theme surrounded by attractive landscaping and walking paths. Eby Lodge, the main building on the 19 acre campus, includes eighty residential apartments, thirty-two enhanced services apartments and a wing with sixteen apartments for those requiring additional care for dementia. Amenities such as underground parking, a café, movie theater, fitness center and swimming pool are located in the Town Center. Twenty-two village homes with 1800 square feet and a two car garage border the campus. Two smaller buildings called Brownstones have twelve deluxe apartments and underground parking in each. With the community over 80% occupied, more than 200 older adults now call Wesley Homes Lea Hill their home.
